Looking back while moving forward with responsibility

Our story began in 1964 – with a small house, a lot of dedication, and the desire to welcome people. Since then, we, the Chizzali family, have been running this place with dedication and passion. Over three generations, it has evolved into a space that has not only grown but also transformed: carefully, consciously, and always in harmony with nature. Sustainability is not a project for us, but a principle. Because it’s not just about today – it’s about tomorrow, too.

In harmony with nature, not
at its expense

Because true sustainability starts with
the small things. And continues everywhere.

Because true sustainability starts with
the small things. And continues everywhere.

What we do, we do with a holistic view. Sustainability has been with us for over two decades – not as a buzzword, but as a part of our daily life. Back in 2000, we began using solar energy to heat the outdoor pool with our first solar system. Since then, many additions have followed: a large photovoltaic system, combined with geothermal and air-source heat pumps, powers our apartments as well as the charging stations for electric cars and e-bikes. The heat for the pool and water also comes from renewable energy.

When building, we pay attention to materials and the environmental footprint. Our annex is made of ninety percent wood, which stores more carbon dioxide than was released during its production. Heating, cooling, and ventilation are done in an environmentally friendly way, with modern technology that consumes as little as possible and gives back a lot. An on-site laundry facility saves transportation. And for maintenance and upkeep, we rely on long-term local partners.

Sustainable all the way through. Small actions, big impact

The Chizzali Family
since 1964

Our hotel looks back on a long and loving history that began with the lease of the original ‘Nesti’ on the Segenbühel in Dorf Tirol. Rosa and Anselm fell in love with the sunny, sheltered village near Merano. Anselm, known for his outstanding cooking skills, opened the Pension Krone with its adjoining restaurant in 1964 together with Rosa and her three sons Karl, Bruno and Robert.

Over the years, the Pension Krone developed into a popular meeting place for guests from near and far. To cope with the growing popularity, we extended the house in 1974. Another milestone followed in 1988, when a tennis court was built and Robert and Elke took over the management of the house.

In 1991, in view of the changing needs of our guests, we decided to close the restaurant and concentrate entirely on the hotel business. The birth of Lucas and Thomas in 1993 and 1994 marked the beginning of the third generation of our family business.

Since 1999, we have continuously invested in enhancing the quality of our guest experience. That year marked a significant milestone with the addition of spacious rooms, refined suites, a welcoming new hotel lobby, and a contemporary dining area—broadening the comfort and style we offer our guests.

In 2012, we expanded further with the construction of a second building, featuring seven thoughtfully designed residential units. Built using environmentally sustainable materials, this extension meets the stringent standards of Climate House A, reflecting our ongoing commitment to ecological responsibility and energy efficiency.

2025, we took another bold step into the future by transforming our hotel into nine spacious accommodation units that seamlessly blend traditional charm with contemporary design. This thoughtful renovation reflects our dedication to offering an exceptional stay that honors our heritage while embracing modern comfort and style.

We look forward to welcoming you to our hotel!
